BRING ME THE HORIZON Score First No. 1 Album With ‘AMO’

- in MUSIC

Congratulations are in order to Bring Me The Horizon!

amo just became the band’s first ever No. 1 album in the UK. Some of the singles from the album are also doing pretty good on the charts.

Bring Me The Horizon’s amo just reached the top of the UK charts a week after its release. According to numbers from the Official Charts Company, the record received 27,000 combined sales, with 61 percent of them being physical—CD and vinyl.

The band thanked the fans for the achievement during an interview with Official charts.

“Thank you to everyone in the UK for getting our new album amo to Number 1,” they said. “Thanks for buying it and streaming it and showing us support—it really means a lot to us. Thank you very much, we love you.”

amo is the band’s first No. 1 with the UK, following 2015’s That’s The Spirit, which peaked at No. 2. For comparison, their debut record, 2006’s Count Your Blessings, reached 93 on the charts.

Plus, three tracks from amo are featured in the Official Singles Chart Top 100 for the week. “Medicine” is at 48, “Mother Tongue” reached No. 68 and “Nihilist Blues” is at 77.

amo is the English act’s sixth full-length, and it’s taken a more pop approach. The band dropped iton Jan. 25 and the reactions have been on both sides of the spectrum. However, many people, including Waterparks’ Awsten Knight, stan the record.

Lead singer Oli Sykes  shared some words about fans who hate it.

“I love how much this record is polarising peeps,” Sykes writes online. “Hasn’t been like this since we released Suicide Season. A lot of kids were quick to shit all over it. Because it was something very different from the scene we was in.”

However, he acquiesces to fans of the band’s heavy stuff, “I 100% support and encourage people’s true opinions and if you are someone who’s only a fan of metal & hardcore with no exceptions, you are well within your right to hate this.”

Last week, BMTH dropped the Grimes-featuring “nihilist blues.” It was preceded by jams “mother tongue,” “medicine,” “wonderful life” (featuring Cradle Of Filth‘s Dani Filth) and the album’s cult-inspired first single, “MANTRA.”

During the weekend, they also shared stripped down versions of “medicine” and “Drown.”
